Assistant Professor Joins the Risk Institute

Professor Tang— Welcome to the Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences at UCLA.

Dr. Chen Tang is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He joined the UCLA Engineering faculty in 2025. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2022, and completed postdoctoral research in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley and in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Tang’s research spans control, AI, and robotics, focusing on developing safe and trustworthy autonomous robotic systems that can be safely deployed in human-centered transportation systems and beyond. He has been recognized with the ASME DSCD Rising Star Award in 2022 and was selected as an RSS Pioneer in 2023.
