Mohammadreza “Reza” Iranpour is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, specializing in control and power engineering, at UCLA and a graduate researcher at the B. John Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences under the supervision of Professor Ali Mosleh. His research integrates engineering simulation, optimal control, probabilistic modeling, machine learning, and geometric methods to develop rigorous, scalable approaches for risk, reliability, and resilience assessment, optimization, control, and intelligent decision-making in complex infrastructure systems.

Reza received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he worked on an NSF-funded project involving convex relaxation, global optimization, and power-system cybersecurity. His thesis developed AC false-data-injection attack design and detection methods using nonlinear optimization, quadratic convex relaxation, and branch-and-bound algorithms. This work received the IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference Best Paper Award and the CSUN Best Thesis Award. He also developed data-driven co-simulation frameworks for evaluating the large-scale impacts of diverse system drivers, like the effects of electric-vehicle charging on power systems. His earlier research developed information - and graph-theoretic methods for assessing the reliability and resilience of interdependent critical infrastructure.

Outside of research, Reza’s main interests are watching movies, playing football, and, of course, watching FC BARCELONA matches as a lifelong Barça fan.
